Most effective home remedy for cystic acne is a mixture of coconut oil and aloe vera gel in a ratio of 4:1. Mix 4 teaspoons of organic coconut oil with 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel. In a cool climate coconut oil is solid so warm the bottle under hot water first. Use the cystic acne treatment mixture twice a day – morning and bedtime – after washing your face with warm water. You might dab the acne cysts only with the mixture but your skin will be grateful if you apply it for your entire face. It works also great for acne scars, they become lighter and less visible.
You can take coconut oil also internally, use it for your cooking or add it to ready dishes. 1-3 teaspoons a day are enough for a radiant skin.
Deficiency of the mineral zinc often causes different skin problems such as acne, cystic acne, rosacea, eczema or psoriasis. If you have small white spots in your fingernails you probably suffer from zinc deficiency. Take zinc with copper supplements as long term zinc substitution leads to copper depletion – since zinc inhibits the absorption of copper from the gastrointestinal tract. Take 50-75 mg zinc with copper supplements a day for one month. If you do not notice any response and your skin acne is still flourishing, stop taking the supplement. If your acne cysts clear up - reduce the dose slowly to a maintenance dose of 15-30 mg zinc with copper supplement a day, until your cystic acne is entirely healed.
According to recent study by Dr Lit-Hung Leung high doses of pantothenic acid (B-5 vitamin) help resolve even severe cases of acne such as cystic acne and nodulocystic acne, and decrease pore size. In a very high dose of 10g pantothenic acid a day, B-5 vitamin improved common acne and cystic acne within one week to one month. After the initial high dose you can reduce to a maintenance dose of 1-3g per day.
Many acne sufferer praise high doses of pantothenic acid as it cured their skin acne completely. Even severe, painful, deep cystic acne can be cleared up within a month. However, after a week of taking the supplement you can notice huge improvement.
If you decide for pantothenic acid supplements build up to 10g/day over the course of a week. If you do not build up gradually it may cause stomach upset. Continue the 10g/day dosage for 2 months. After that you can gradually cut back the dosage to a maintenance dose of 3-1g/day.
As supplements usually come in 500mg (0.5g) doses the initial dosage means taking 20 pills a day. Split the dosage up into two doses a day (10 pills in the morning and evening) and dissolve the pills in a drink. It is better for your stomach taking it dissolved even if it tastes badly. Smaller doses might also work, but it takes longer to see results with stubborn acne and cystic acne cases. However, one of the most effective acne remedy and treatment of cystic acne remains pantothenic acid.
I personally recommend in the case of severe cystic acne the combination of natural remedies for cystic acne: combine the internal (zinc and pantothenic acid) treatment with the regular and topical use of cystic acne home remedies. Do not be discouraged if the first treatment attempt fails. It may take several tries to find the combination of cystic acne treatments that work for you. Be persistent with home remedies for cystic acne and you will be rewarded.
